Audrey Hepburn met Hubert de Givenchy when she scheduled an appointment at his Paris atelier to look for costumes for Sabrina. Givenchy thought he was meeting Katharine Hepburn, and when Audrey walked into his atelier he was very disappointed and told her he couldn’t help her.

She convinced him to let her look through past seasons, and chose three outfits for Sabrina: the Glen Cove outfit, the little black dress, and the strapless floral gown.

Unfortunately for Givenchy, when Sabrina was nominated for an Oscar in costume design, he wasn’t given credit, and the Oscar went to Edith Head (who refused to share credit, and refused to acknowledge that the Oscar was only won because of Givenchy’s outfits).

Afterwards they became fast — and lifelong — friends.
